The Retina Society Fellowship Research Award and
The Margherio Award

Current Fellows of active members of the Retina Society, including those graduating in June 2010, may submit an abstract and manuscript to be considered for The Retina Society Fellowship Research Award and The Margherio Award.

The Fellowship Research Award is given to one or more Fellows for outstanding original work in any aspect of vitreoretinal disease. The Margherio Award is given for outstanding original work in macular diseases or surgery. These awards carry a stipend that will cover normal travel and lodging costs to attend the Annual Meeting in Boston. In addition, the award winners will be featured prominently in the program, and their registration fee will be waived.  All abstracts will be considered for both awards, with the final selection made by the Awards Committee.

In addition to an abstract that must be submitted by the April 1, 2010 deadline, applications require a completed manuscript, submitted no later than April 15, 2010. All submissions will be evaluated by the Awards Committee, whose decision will be final.

Please note the following important requirements that need to be met in order to be considered for both awards.

  • The applicant must be the presenting/senior author on the abstract.
  • The sponsoring Society member must be in attendance at the meeting.
  • The sponsoring Society member must submit a letter of support no later than April 15, 2010, to Judy Cerone Keenan, The Retina Society, P.O. Box 6305 , Boston, MA 02114, retinasoc@aol.com
  • All abstracts must be submitted through the on-line abstract submission system no later than APRIL 1, 2010.
  • We will advise you prior to the submission deadline as to how to submit your manuscript.
  • If an applicant is not selected for an award, there are two subsequent pathways for their abstract submission. (Applicant is required to choose one of the following options while submitting their abstract on-line):
  1. The abstract be withdrawn without any further obligation
  2. The abstract be considered for inclusion in the Annual Meeting program,  understanding that, if selected, the Fellow is obligated to attend the meeting as a paying  registrant. Please review and respect these policies, as later withdrawal of any material selected for the program is disruptive and inconsiderate to others whose submission could have been included.
